Once upon a time...

In a land far far away, there lived a king and a queen and their four beautiful children... Unfortunately they were way too boring to write about, so you're all stuck with the Dimmock's instead!

We're a bit of a fractured fairytale.I can't promise to update every day...I'm a bit slack like that (shhh), but I'll do my best to keep it up.

And they all lived happily ever after...well that's the plan at least :oP

My new baby...

Or more accurately titled "I have the best husband in the history of the world".

A couple of days before Christmas my fabulous, wonderful, amazing husband came home with an enourmous gift wrapped box. It was my Christmas pressie. He told me that if I could guess what was in it, I could have it straight away. If I guessed wrong I wasn't allowed to ask for hints or even mention it again until Christmas morning. Well, I couldn't think of a single thing that it could be that would be that big...so I just said "camera". Wishful thing, and I was going to get it wrong anyway...

Then he gives me the box.

So I open up this lawn mower sized box and find that it was indeed a lawn mower box! No mower in sight though. Wrapped up in 30 odd metres of paper and stuffing was a gold box. I don't think I breathed for a few minutes. I only just barely managed to not cry.

I'm now the proud owner of a Nikon D700, which is just about as good as it gets in the camera world. It's my dream camera. It's so amazing I'm almost scared to touch it. Definitely a grown up toy! Just a little bit of pressure though...no slacking off when $4000 worth of camera is sitting in front of me. I'm so not worthy of it, but I'm working on it!

Ok, so Steff thinks I'm crazy, but photographers would understand! This was taken at ISO 3200. My D80 wouldn't even GO that high, and if it had of the pics would have been so grainy they'd have been unusable anyway. But this is completely untouched. On the right is the picture, just cropped and resized, and on the left is a 100% crop of the lashes. Look how sharp that is?!? And almost NO noise! It was love at first click *sigh*.

And Saxon and Grayson... colours are perfect straight out of the camera.

Can't decide if I prefer the colour or the B&W.

Christmas gifts...

Some quick storyboards I put together at the last minute for some of the family. Steff painted frames for me at work, and they looked fantastic! Modest? Moi? Um...sure :oP

Almost there!

December faves...so far.

It's just a coincidence that Saxon happens to be crying everytime I get the camera out. I didn't pinch him, honest!

This is the face he gave me when I told him to show me his "happy face"

Sporting a very manly black hair clip today...

The reason for the hair accessories. And no...we're NOT cutting it!

One week old.

November randoms...

My folder for November has over 500 photo's in it. These are my favourites :o)

Grayson and Wyatt in the paddle pool. Yes, his eyes really are that colour! It's the blue reflected from the pool making them even bluer than they usually are.

Photobucket

Saxon and our long suffering kitten.
Photobucket

Tea anyone?

November was the start of 2 years and $13000 worth of dental work for the big kids. Grayson had her twin block plates fitted to realign her jaw. She'll wear these for approx 12 months before having her braces put on. Gaige had 4 teeth extracted to create more room in his mouth, and his braces fitted to push them all into place.

"Ohhh I was supposed to put it in my mouth?!" Saxon feeding himself.
Photobucket

What? It's blue!

My very first maternity shoot!

October 24th 2008

Nothing spectacular, but we had fun :o) My willing victim is my cousin, Lisa. She's since had a baby girl, Lilli Grace. I also did her newborn pics a few weeks after these. One of these days I'll find the time to re-edit them all, but until then, they'll do.

Halloween 2008

I'm not a great fan of my kids taking candy from strangers (call me crazy!), so years ago when they first started asking to go trick or treating, we promised them that when Halloween fell on a weekend, they could have a party. It turns out that children have very long memories! As the scariest night of the year was a Friday this year, we had to follow through on our promise...

I'm not sure who had the most fun - the kids at the actual party, or the grown ups during the planning of it. Custom designed invitations, spooky decorations, the works! I spent days organising the perfect Halloween playlist for their iPod, and even the food was scary. BBQ'd batwings, nuclear waste, witches fingers, vampire blood...even a skeleton crawling out of his chocolate cake "grave".

It remains to be seen as to whether it will become an annual event.

Grayson - the Gothic Angel. Her hair is still red 2 months later!

Gaige was almost a better Dr Who than David Tennant. His costume was voted "Most Original".
Photobucket

Photobucket

Grumpy "Diego" and Superman...
Photobucket

Mama as a witch (one complaint mother, and I'll post the original :oP), and Adam as Dumbledore.
Photobucket

It's not easy being green...Raymond as Shrek. Lisa and Teagan as a pregnant hippy and a witch.
Photobucket

Teagan and Lucas. He was the cutest baby vampire ever!
Photobucket

I think this is the first photo of me with the kids since we got married in '03. And looking at it, I know why I spend most of my time behind the camera :oP I was Ruby Gloom, complete with striped stockings and mary jane's.
Photobucket

Steff and Teagan. I don't even want to know what she's doing to him...!

October randoms.

There are so many photo's from this month I'll put them into their own posts. These are just a few random favourites.

Lucas Dane Burston
Photobucket

Daddy took Rabbit and Wyatt out to play in the beetle. I think this is where he tried to leave them behind :oP
Photobucket

Our little fairy boy. Don't look too closely - he's not wearing any underwear and you can see his Trevor (that's a whole other post in itself - I'll get to that!).
Photobucket

Saxon's got the best seat in the house to play trains. Please don't look at his mis-matched PJ's!
Photobucket

Never in my life have I seen eyes like this. He's so beautiful.
Photobucket

He did like the tutu. He DID!!
Photobucket

My big boy. There's not many photo's of him...he generally hides when he sees the camera come out.

Wooohoooo

Check me out! I'm done...and it didn't take me 3 months :oP

I hope everyone likes the new look. I know I do. The pics might take a little longer load the first few times you view it because they're quite a bit bigger, but I think it's worth it. If you have 5 minutes, please look through all the posts. I've added a few new pics here and there, and you don't want to miss anything.

I promise I'll get up to date with pics in the next couple of days too. And I really mean it this time ;o)

It's makeover time!

So please bear with me as I re-upload all the pics to match the new layout. I much prefer this one. The size of the photo's before has always really bothered me, and I finally have time to fix it. So after many hours of tinkering and playing, I've found one that I *think* I like. I promise that once I get it all sorted, I'll update for the last couple of months since I posted last. I know...bad bad me.

I'll be back...

A little about us...ok, mostly me...

Hey there! I'm guessing that most people who drop by to visit us here already know who we are, but just in case...

My name's Nikki. I'm mum to 4 (yeah, 4...can you believe it? No, me either *shudder*) kids, aged from 16 down to 4. My husband, Steff, is originally from the UK - I stole him away from the cold and the damp to live in Central Queensland, where he must endure almost endless sunshine and blue skies. Somehow he manages ;o)

I started this blog as a way to keep family in England up to date with our comings and goings. And it lets me show off how cute the kids are getting!

A little about me...I'm a professional photographer, I'm obsessive about Buffy the Vampire Slayer, love Harry Potter, Sookie Stackhouse (only book Sookie, not True Blood Sookie. It's an important distinction!), (the 10th) Doctor Who, cupcakes, and Spuffy fanfic (although not necessarily in that order). I'm also an extreme perfectionist with a love of the creative and original, who has a very low tolerance for stupidity. If you ask my husband, he'll tell you I'm a huge snob - I'm really not. I just think I'm better than everyone else :oP (That's a joke, ok? Pretty much).

Oh, and please leave a comment to tell me how fabulous you think I am...it makes me write faster and more often ;o) No really...that part wasn't a joke...
